Kothagiri is a taluk and a Town Panchayat city in The Nilgiris District in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is the third largest hill station in the Nilgiri hills. Kotagiri is located at 11.43°N 76.88°E. It has an average elevation of 1847 metres.
It is 20 kms from Kotagiri via Kil-Kotagiri. The conical peak exudes an exhilarating view of the wild yet harmonious semblance of the country lying around.
Longwood Shola reserve forest is a very small tropical rainforest (just 115 Hectares) in the middle of the Kotagiri and is a crucial water source for many villages in Kotagiri.
Catherine Falls is a double-cascaded waterfall located in Kotagiri, The Nilgiris District, Tamil nadu and it is also a major tourist spot in Kotagiri, located on the Mettupalayam road branching off at Aravenu. The upper fall drops to the floor, and is the second highest in the Nilgiri mountains.
They are one of the original tribes of the Nilgiris mountain range. The Toda language, of Dravidian origin, is unique to their small community and does not have a script. Their main occupations include herding cattle and working with dairy products, but because of their increasing interactions with other communities, as the world becomes more gobalized, they now engage in other occupations such as agriculture.
The dance that they performed consisted of six women positioned in a circle moving in a clockwise and counter clockwise direction to the rhythm of a song that they sang.
The waterfall itself is beautiful during the rains, that's when. Enjoy a hot cup of tea and the just take in the view of the lake and beside it, Pykara Falls.The place is good and well maintained by the respective govt dept. Battery car was there but when I went it was not operational. If they had more battery cars it would be really good especially for senior citizens.
